Welcome to us at (N)Purrferina`s Sacred Birmans

This is Us and how it all started....

My name is Annette Johannessen, and I am married to Øyvind Johannessen. We have two children, Hans Christian and Mathias. We live on the southwest cost of Norway, on Rennesøy - a lovely island outside of Stavanger, about 30 minutte drive.

I had a choice of what cat I wanted, and for me Sacred Birmans was a very easy choice with their loving temper and easygoing nature and fantastic look. Sacred Birmans are happy staying indoors, love the company of other felines, kids and dogs, are very family friendly, pleasant and I can just go on and on about how fantastic they are. So that was the start of a long search for the right cat for our family. I was very lucky when I got to buy a fabulous male cat from a cattery on the east cost of Norway called Pusulf summer of 2005. I got my breeding prefix 10 of January 2006 - Purrferina's Sacred Birmans.  The same month  my first girl showed up. And the funny part is that she is from the same place that me and my husband meet.

That was the start, after that I have learned about the good and the bad of the Cattery hobby. Not all are friendly and helpfull, but there are a handfull of good people out there. And with their support and help, I now have the knowledge, heart  and the "know-how" for this the fantastic breed - Sacred Birmans..

The cattery
" I would just like to tell you about my thinking and what I want with my cattery.  As even though it is a hobby, it is still very serious and there are many things to consider.

Purrferina's has as a goal to breed strong and healthy Birmans for a life inside happy homes like ours.  They are family members, we keep them around us 24 hr a day and the kids love them.  My children grew up with cats and have the outmost respect for them. I would not allow any animal to live with us if not. Kids need to learn empathy. Lucky my kids have.

They are our pets, and they are may be a little spoiled. But who can ever resist a face like that?? We let them run free around the house, and we have a connecting cat flap to an enclosed area in the back yard where they can enjoy fresh air. But I can not let them free as there is way to much danger around.  Not only cars, but Birmans are so loving and naive they trust everybody. Therefore things can go very wrong...

So what do I want in my Birmans? I aim for: strong, healthy cats.  Good tempered and well balanced. I also put a strong emphasis that there is very little inbreeding in my cats and therefore I like to import from other country's. New blood lines and right health are crucial. I find genetics fascinating.

I do not like to say so, but I also like my cats to have strong bones, a good roman nose, deep blue eye colour and fantastic fur... You can not ever be guarantied these things when you look at the kitten so I go by the pedigree.

And last but not least: Shows!!! I LOVE SHOWS. I find it social and exiting,... maybe I will see you there? "

Yours sincerly,
